Biosecurity Game Changers Initiative

Next-generation health security leaders must be globally connected and able to envision, prepare for, and prevent worst-case biological scenarios. They need to quickly recognize, halt, and mitigate large-scale crises—seeing beyond surface-level threats and using strategic foresight to stay ahead of emerging risks

To build a stronger global biosecurity ecosystem, the Pandemic Center’s Biosecurity Game Changers Initiative develops rising leaders with the judgment, technical grounding, and strategic perspective needed for an increasingly complex threat landscape. Rather than focusing only on today’s risks, the program prepares participants to navigate emerging challenges and shape resilient systems for the future.

The initiative advances this mission through three core components:

Biosecurity Game Changers Fellowship – A deep-dive program for emerging leaders.
Pandemic Game Changers Course – A training course focused on critical skills.
Next Generation Workshops – Hands-on sessions for building expertise and networks.

Together, these efforts cultivate the skills, knowledge, and global connections needed to drive real change in biosecurity.

Working with young leaders in this space is one of the most meaningful and rewarding things we can do, as they will shape our futures. Using the best expertise, tools, technology and systems we have developed over the course of many epidemics and one pandemic in recent times, tomorrow’s leaders have a special opportunity to head off future disasters by making better decisions.

Biosecurity Game Changers Fellowship

This is a fellowship for early-to-mid career professionals. We took on our first cohort of fellows this last summer. During the year, fellows will collaborate on an operational project with either the Pandemic Center or one of the partner organizations focused on a specific aspect of improving biosecurity, biosafety and/or pandemic preparedness and response. Each fellow will also receive a Brown faculty appointment for the duration of their fellowship.

Pandemic Game Changers Course

Biosecurity game Changers is a course that is offered that teaches students how to tackle risks, shape policy solutions and drive action against emerging threats.

Next Gen Workshops

Workshops have been a way to have these two groups and other Pandemic Center Fellows crossover and co-collaborate on setting forward goals and initiatives as the rising next generation of leadership tackling biosecurity.
