Oluwatosin Wuraola Akande, FMCPH, MPH, MBBS
Biography
Dr. Oluwatosin Wuraola Akande is a Fellow at the Brown University Pandemic Center. Previously, Oluwatosin served as a Technical Officer in the Health Emergencies Programme at the World Health Organization (WHO) Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, where she supported over 190 countries and partners in strengthening capacities for epidemic and pandemic preparedness and response. Her work focused on pathogen genomic surveillance, epidemic and pandemic planning, and enhancing timely and equitable access to medical countermeasures. She contributed to global health security through strategic policy development, technical assistance, and fostering multisectoral collaboration using a whole-of-government, whole-of-society approach. She has authored and co-authored more than 50 scientific publications and technical documents.
Prior to joining WHO, Oluwatosin was an Assistant Director at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC). She led the Knowledge Management Unit, served as Lead Epidemiologist in the Genomics Unit, supported the Nigeria Field Epidemiology Training Programme, and was the Research Pillar Lead for the National COVID-19 Emergency Operations Centre.
