Cyrille Kablan Nouoma is a Ghanaian military officer, Medical Laboratory Scientist and Forensic Analyst. He works at the Molecular, Forensics and Research Laboratory of 37 Military Hospital, Ghana’s designated National Disaster and Emergency Response health facility, where he contributes to molecular diagnostics, forensic analysis and laboratory systems supporting military and civilian health preparedness, and national security. His work sits at the intersection of laboratory science, microbial forensics, biosecurity, public health and defence. 

In 2023, Cyrille served with the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan as a Laboratory Specialist with the Ghanaian Battalion, providing diagnostic laboratory services, specimen management, quality assurance and laboratory surveillance. This experience in a resource-constrained operational environment strengthened his understanding of how laboratory capacity and timely health intelligence contribute to force health protection, medical readiness and outbreak preparedness. 

Cyrille’s laboratory expertise spanning from clinical laboratory medicine, blood transfusion science, microbiology, infection prevention and control, and antimicrobial resistance surveillance underpins his understanding of how laboratory systems detect and respond to biological threat, while his forensic training informs his interest in using biological evidence to support attribution process of biological incidents. 

His long-term goals are to help bridge the gap between civilian and military health systems in Africa, explore the role of microbial forensics in biological incident investigation while strengthening Africa’s capacity to anticipate, investigate and respond to biological threats. Cyrille holds a BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana and an MSc in Forensic Science from King’s College London. Outside work, he enjoys cooking and running.
