Report: Keeping Businesses Open and Safe During Health Emergencies
Businesses are essential partners in protecting public health and economic stability during crises, as demonstrated by a national initiative that united US business leaders to share lessons from COVID-19 and develop practical models for future emergency response in a roundtable discussion. The results and takeaways of this roundtable were published in a report, "Keeping Businesses Open and Safe During Health Emergencies: Toward Better Platforms and Tailored Playbooks for the Future."

The American Democracy and Health Security Initiative, a partnership between the Pandemic Center, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the COVID Collaborative, charts a way forward that both respects individual freedoms and supports the collective good. A report titled “The American Democracy and Health Security Initiative: Lighting a Path Forward amid Pandemic Polarization" published in June of 2024 summarizes findings and features urgent recommendations, made into practical, actionable steps, to advance America’s health security.

American democracy and public health effectiveness are inextricable. American health security depends on maximizing the ability to live in a free, pluralistic society able to coherently manage a public health emergency. In turn, the health of US democracy depends on citizens’ faith and trust in institutions—especially government—to protect them in a crisis such as a pandemic.
