
Sarah Winthrope
Biography
Dr. Sarah Winthrope is a visiting fellow at the Brown University Pandemic Center. Previously, Sarah worked as a biosecurity researcher with the Centre for Long-Term Resilience in England and Good Ancestors Policy in Australia, focusing on a range of topics including emerging biological risks, the intersection of biotechnology and artificial intelligence, DNA synthesis screening, bioeconomy strategy, and pandemic response strategy.
Prior to focusing on biosecurity, Sarah practiced clinical medicine in Bendigo, Australia, working in internal and emergency medicine, as well as mental health. She holds a medical degree from Monash University, Melbourne, and attained Honours in Bioethics at the University of Oxford, where her research focused on scarce resource allocation during pandemics. In 2025, she was named a fellow of the Asia Centre for Health Security.
